Rugby to Robotics: The pursuit of excellence in sport and medicine
From the try line to the operating theatre — join us for a fireside chat with Jonathan Webb (MBChB 1987), former England and British & Irish Lions full-back turned consultant orthopaedic surgeon.
Jonathan won 33 caps for England, toured with the Lions, and played at the top of the game through two World Cups. Then he swapped the pitch for a career in medicine, specialising in knee surgery. It's a rare career arc, and an even better story.
In conversation with recent graduate Jasper Turner (BSc 2026), Jonathan will talk about the pursuit of excellence across two very different worlds — what elite sport and cutting-edge surgery have in common, what it takes to reinvent yourself, and everything in between. Expect candid stories, a few hard-won lessons, and plenty of time for your questions.
Join us at the Oxford & Cambridge Club for what promises to be a genuinely memorable evening — great conversation, good company, and the chance to catch up with fellow Bristol alumni.
Just before the lecture, we will hold a brief Annual General Meeting of the London Branch.
