Intensive Intro to Playback Theatre (Level 1)
Are you new to Playback Theatre, or feeling rusty and want to revisit the foundations? Then this accredited Level 1 Intensive is for you!
We will explore the core forms, theory and ritual of Playback Theatre, and you'll get to apply your new skills straight away through a relaxed playback performance for friends and family.
Over these 3.5 days we will:
- connect creatively as a group, developing playfulness and trust
- explore the foundational forms of playback theatre, and connect these to theory, context and applications
- practice the core playback theatre rituals
- share our own stories to gain experience as tellers and support the playback practice
- put your new skills into practice straight away, with a playback showcase for friends and family!
We are committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment. As such, we will keep the training group to a maximum of 12 people.
Who will deliver the training?
Our training team at London Playback Theatre consists of Lillie Stoute, Andi Haase, Ferran Luengo and Belinda Sherlock - all experienced playbackers with varying backgrounds in theatre pedagogy, applied theatre and creative therapy. You can find more out about each of us here.
How much does it cost?
It costs £325, plus a small booking fee.
There are two global majority scholarships available - at £225 each (plus small booking fee) - for people who identify as Black, Brown, Asian or member of a First Nation community from the Americas or Oceania. This scholarship exists to support those who are currently under-represented in the Playback Theatre community to access training.
There are options to pay in full now, or pay in installments (a £100 deposit and pay the remainder by 16th March 2026).
