Roller ski taster

Get an introduction to roller skiing and start by learning some of the basics of classic technique. Open to non Club members. If you've never cross country skied or roller skied before, this taster will give you the chance to get a flavour of the sport.

Cost including equipment hire: Adults £10.00/Juniors £5.00.

Roller ski beginners' course

Your can learn to roller ski for fitness and fun, and in the UK it's the route to becoming a cross country skier on snow. The techniques are the same and transferable so you get a head start when you get on snow.

This is the 4th & last session of the beginners' course where you'll learn the basics focusing on balance and co-ordination - how to glide using classic technique [diagonal stride] and double poling, uphill and downhill techniques, simple turns and how to stop, plus you'll learn about equipment.

We focus on classic technique initially and skating may be introduced later depending on group preferences. Classic technique is the most common form of cross country skiing. If you go to a cross country skiing area you’ll always find classic tracks but not always those prepared for skating technique.

The 4 course dates are: 27/9, 4 & 18/10, 1/11 - all start at 10:00.

[The next Beginners Learn to roller ski course [3 sessions] starts on 15/11 + 29/11 & 13/12].

Coaching for improvers and intermediates -skate technique

Develop your skills and learn to roller ski more efficiently with tuition from our expert coaches. The aim will be to help you ski better, more efficiently and with less (wasted) effort.

Subject to coach availability we may run separate improver and intermediate groups, or combine the levels in one group.

  • Improvers coaching is for those who have attended a number of skate beginner sessions  & can ski the circuit safely.
  • Intermediates coaching is for competent roller skiers who want to refresh/refine/improve their skills.
  • You can indicate your skiing level during the booking process.

Children's coaching - session 5

Designed for children aged 7-12 these sessions aim to develop skiing skills through play and fun. The focus will be on movement that develops coordination, technique and speed, both individually and as part of the group.  This is the 3rd of 5 sessions to 1 November.

Southern Roll 3km classic challenge

This is one of our regular Southern Roll challenge events where you ski as fast as you can for 3km in any

technique, and get a timed result [it's a similar idea to Parkrun but on roller skis]. It's free to

enter and open to LRNSC and other Snowsport England club members. Find out more about the Southern Roll here.
