At the London School of Horticulture we LOVE compost!  Over a hot summer it can be absolutely lifesaving, acting as a sponge and holding onto water.  

Making it sustainably and having a continual supply is the foundation of all growing. Recycling your garden and kitchen waste into home-made compost is both easy and environmentally friendly. It reduces transporting waste to landfill, provides your plants with nutrients, protects the soil and is a valuable habitat for hundreds of invertebrates. Many people think you require lots of space or expensive containers, but this is not the case and there are a variety of simple approaches to composting.

We'll give an informative and practical overview into compost, composting and sustainable growing media for feeding, mulching and maintaining.

Participants will be able to look at different types of composting in the allotment site and discuss the suitability of different methods for their situation, including wormeries and the Japanese Bokashi method. We will also explore compost teas and demonstrate ways of making homemade plant foods.  

Workshops held on Saturday morning in our Rosendale Allotments classroom in small groups.
