Longford Triathlon Club is proud to present our Zero 2 Tri Hero Training Programme for 2025. 

The Zero 2 Tri programme is an 8-week structured training plan designed for beginners and returning athletes looking to build confidence and fitness for a triathlon. Whether you’re completely new to triathlon, returning after a break, or looking to add a new sport for a more balanced fitness routine, this programme will guide you through a progressive, balanced schedule covering swimming, cycling, and running, alongside essential skills like transitions and race preparation.

Programme Highlights:

  • Duration: 8 Weeks
  • Athlete Level: Beginners & Returning Athletes
  • Disciplines: Swimming, Cycling, Running, Transitions
  • Goal: Successfully complete a try-a-tri pool-based triathlon

Minimum Necessary Equipment

We will discuss optional equipment and tri-specific clothing as part of the course, but you will need the following to start.

  • Run: Comfortable runners and running gear. You may also want a light jacket.
  • Bike: Any road worthy bike, it doesn’t have to be a racer! Correctly fitting helmet is a must.
  • Swim: The usual swimming gear: googles, swim suit and swimming hat.

Gradual Progression – Starts with basic endurance and technique, gradually increasing intensity and volume
Structured Weekly Workouts – training sessions covering the 3 disciplines of swim, bike and run
Skills & Transitions – Focus on efficient transitions, pool-based swimming, bike handling and running efficiency
Support & Guidance – Weekly tips, motivation from your fellow participants, and Q&A with trainers
Race Day Preparation – Pacing strategies, and mental preparation

By the end of the Zero 2 Tri programme, athletes will be well-prepared to complete a triathlon with confidence and enjoyment. Whether your goal is simply to finish or to improve your performance, this plan ensures a fun and supportive journey into the world of triathlon.
