The Longshaw Sheep Dog Trials return to the picturesque Longshaw Estate in the Peak District from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 September 2027. Bringing together talented sheepdogs and their handlers from across the UK and beyond, this much-loved event near Sheffield offers three days of competition, countryside and community spirit.

As one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious sheepdog trials, Longshaw is a chance to see the remarkable skill and partnership between shepherds and their working dogs in a spectacular rural setting.

History of the Trials

Established in 1898, the Longshaw Sheep Dog Trials were created to showcase the skills of shepherds and their dogs and encourage better training and handling practices. The challenging terrain provides a demanding test of precision, patience and teamwork.

Over more than a century, the trials have grown into an internationally recognised event while retaining the traditions and welcoming atmosphere that make Longshaw special.

Highlights of the 2027 Event

• Sheepdog competitions: Watch handlers guide their dogs through a series of demanding tasks using whistle and voice commands. Each run demonstrates the intelligence, discipline and trust needed to move sheep accurately around the course.
• Food, drink and craft stalls: Browse the craft stalls, enjoy a choice of food and visit the popular beer tent, serving locally brewed beer.
• The Longshaw Fell Race: Held on Saturday morning, 4 September, the race attracts runners from far and wide. Its five-mile course crosses varied terrain through Burbage, Higger Tor, Over Owler Tor, Owler Tor, Lawrence Field and Longshaw Pastures, taking in woodland, rocky paths and the occasional bog.
• Rural heritage and community: The trials celebrate the people, animals and traditions at the heart of rural life. Whether you are a regular visitor or attending for the first time, there is plenty to enjoy throughout the three days.
