Wicker Man Night
Wicker Man Night
Join broadcaster, author, musician and storyteller David Bramwell for a unique celebration of one of Britain's greatest cult films. A lifelong explorer of folklore, outsider culture and Britain's hidden histories, David has spent decades uncovering the strange stories that lie beneath everyday life through his books, BBC Radio programmes, live performances and the acclaimed Adventures in Nutopia podcast. Creator of the legendary Catalyst Club, frontman of psychedelic folk band Oddfellow's Casino, and winner of both a Sony Radio Award and the Brighton Fringe Award, David has become one of the UK's most engaging voices on folklore, psychogeography and modern myth-making.
For more than fifteen years David has toured his celebrated Sing-Along-a-Wicker Man, an event that has delighted audiences across the UK and even earned the blessing of the film's director, Robin Hardy. Blending fascinating film history with live storytelling and audience participation, David reveals the remarkable story behind the making of The Wicker Man (1973), its enduring influence on music, folklore and popular culture, before inviting audiences to join in a joyous sing-along screening using a specially created Pagan Hymn Book.
Presented in collaboration with White Wall Cinema—Brighton's much-loved independent film collective, renowned for bringing cult classics and overlooked cinematic gems to unusual venues across the city—this promises to be one of the most memorable nights of the UnderCurrents programme.
Whether you're a lifelong devotee or discovering Summerisle for the first time, expect an evening of music, folklore, laughter and glorious pagan eccentricity unlike any other.
