Astrid Young is a singer-songwriter with influences that range from classical to heavy rock, with a healthy dose of blues and country. Her discography dates back to 1984 and boasts over forty releases, including four solo albums and a multitude of credits as a side-musician and background singer. Through the years, she has played stages large and small, from the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Hollywood to Paradiso in Amsterdam, Rock in Rio, and everywhere in between. Citing her primary influences as David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, and Black Sabbath, she plays a 12-string like it's a weapon and isn't afraid to change her strings on the day of a show. As a tip to her hard rocking roots, her solo acoustic shows have been compared to Alice In Chains Unplugged, and Music Connection Magazine once said she was “more closely related to Angus…” Music Express magazine describes her as “evocative, stunning, soulful… a gifted songwriter,” and Blues Hamilton rightly notes that there is “a musical surprise around every corner.”

Young has released four solo albums: Brainflower, Matinee, Pokalolo Paniolo (as iST), and One Night at Giant Rock, the acid-folk epic, which was produced by Victor DeLorenzo, an original Violent Femme. The vinyl re-release of One Night at Giant Rock saw two songs at the top of indie radio charts in 2024, and a more recent single, Lay Me Down hit number one in Spain for several weeks.

Astrid’s new album, How the Beautiful Get Away With Murder, was produced by the legendary Eddie Kramer and features David J (Love & Rockets/Bauhaus) on bass and a duet on the title track, Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes) on drums, Tim Welch (Carole Pope/Images in Vogue) on guitar, and an ensemble of luminary guest musicians, including Neil Young himself.

Live highlights for 2025 included opening for Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts on their 2025 Canadian tour dates, followed by a sold-out solo tour in the Netherlands.

She’s toured the world singing backup for A-list acts, written several screenplays (some optioned), made a film, wrote a Canadian bestseller, and is an award-winning wine professional with three sommelier certifications—but beyond all that, the thing she’s most proud of is that her voice has been heard in space! (Neil Young’s Harvest Moon, which Astrid sings on, was “officially” played on the ISS).
