Jazz Messengers String Quartet

The Jazz Messengers String Quartet at Lost Chord Guitars Dec 9

The Jazz Messengers String Quartet is a dynamic group that takes a look at jazz in a fresh new way. Group leader Rebecca Roudman describes themselves as “tossing out the old straight jacket of tired jazz to recapture the fire and sexiness that’s been missing from a lot of modern jazz.”

At the Lost Chord Guitars Dec 9, this dynamic group of bay area musicians will take old jazz standards and give them a fresh coat of paint with the unique instrumentation of cello, violin, guitar, and bass. Mixed in with their hard-hitting instrumental jazz, will be sultry vocals from the Great American songbook. Featuring bay area Latin jazz legend, Anthony Blea, and world-traveling crossover cellist, Rebecca Roudman, along with a hard-hitting rhythm section, this show is great for people who love jazz and also for those who are skeptical about jazz.

The group has been described as “...something different and fresh” in recent reviews. Come hear their take on everything from Blue Rondo A La Turk to Peggy Lee’s Fever.

The story of jazz began as a joyful expression of emotion, fire, and sexiness. The Jazz Messengers String Quartet wants to bring you back there through a fresh look at old jazz. No horns, no drums, but a stripped down, blistering expression of hard hitting jazz on string instruments. Sultry vocals and a crazy amount of rhythm, and a depth of passion, make the Jazz Messengers String Quartet a group for people that love the bop standards and also for people who want to hear the old straight jacket of jazz ripped off.
