An Evening with Howard Lewis. Author of 'Leave Your Phone At The Door"

Sat 26 Sep 2026 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Lost in the Reads, BS15 8LP

Join us for an evening in conversation with author Howard Lewis, as we celebrate his latest book Leave Your Phone At The Door.

Hosted by local author & mindset coach Esther,  the evening will be a thought-provoking and entertaining conversation about the value of stepping away from our screens and reconnecting with the real world.

You’ll explore how to:

  • Build stronger connections through meaningful, face-to-face conversation
  • Develop better social habits and feel more comfortable connecting with people
  • Embrace spontaneity and serendipity rather than always sticking to the familiar
  • Be more present and make space for quiet, contemplation and genuine interaction
  • Challenge your relationship with technology without having to reject it altogether
  • Approach the unfamiliar with greater curiosity and openness
  • Rediscover the joy of real-life community, unexpected encounters and simply being together

Expect ideas to challenge you, stories to make you laugh, and plenty to think about! Plus the chance to ask your own questions and get your books signed!

Howard is 64 and lives in London. He entered the stock market at an early age before his interests led him to co-found Thesaurus (now Invaluable), a pioneer in the provision of electronic information services to the art and collectibles world. He is now director of the Schorr Collection which, though dominated by Old Master paintings, encompasses many diverse categories.

'Leave Your Phone At The Door' is based on the OFFLINE concept Howard Lewis created over 15 years ago. At its core, OFFLINE is a celebration of the virtues of randomness and serendipity. Every couple of months, he hosted a dinner in London for 30–35 people of all ages and backgrounds. It was an invitation to cast aside mobile devices for the evening, and it had a transformative effect. People engaged face to face and experienced the joy of communicating personally rather than remotely. And that feeling is always enhanced when shared over food! It was a reminder of what it means to be human, and this book is an embodiment of that philosophy.
