It is our great pleasure to bring in the new season with a scintillating spectacle of cinematic proportions as Lost Lectures presents ‘Curiosity Kino’. On Saturday April 13th we will be opening the doors to a true relic of London’s past: a vast old cinema, opened after 30 years dormant, that through its faded facade, screams art-deco decadence like nowhere else. It truly is quite something to behold.
Expect all the glitz and glamour of a hollywood premier: red carpet, roaming paparazzi, scintillating speeches as well as a mind-expanding mix of talks, music, character actors, popcorn sellers and curious cocktails. We'll be juxtaposing new-school thinking with old-school architecture and getting creative with our cinematic sensibilities.
We invite guests to dress up glam: dicky bows, hats, dresses and jackets are firmly encouraged (though not required) while casual clothing, although totally fine, won’t be winning Oscars for originality. Expect the usual Lost blend of science, art, culture, current affairs, music and mayhem as we return to what we do best at an all-singing, all-dancing one-off spectacular.
Speakers include:
Andrew Whitehurst: Oscar winning visual effects artist, known for his work on Troy, Skyfall, Paddington, Harry Potter and Ex Machina will be revealing cinema’s greatest secrets.
David McCandless: Information designer and data artist known for ‘Information is Beautiful’ will be helping us understand the world through his newest infographic creations.
Alexandra Ma: Journalist and specialist on China and Tech, will be explore dynamics of citizen and state and how surveillance in Xinjiang and the great social-credit ranking experiment may affect us all.
Sara Gibbs: Satirist and writer (Mash Report) and a co-founder of satirical online women’s magazine (Succubus) will ask us the most pressing of political questions: ‘reality or satire’?
Alex Baranowski: Tony nominated composer, creator of World Cup BBC Score and collaborator with Underworld, Jungle and The XX will take us on a music odyssey through samples and soundscapes.
Speaker X: final heavy hitting speaker TBC.
Location will be announced a few days prior to the event via email. The location is in Zone 2 and easily accessible from Central London locations: you can get there in around half an hour from Oxford Circus.
