One night at the disco... We are thrilled, excited & ecstatic to announce to you that SUPERMAX returns with our legendary History Of D.I.S.C.O. extravaganza SATURDAY 28TH OF JANUARY 2023 ! As anyone who's previously been in attendance knows, this one ain't for the faint hearted, even by Supermax standards!

Billyboy (“Glasgow’s King Of Disco”- Optimo) will present a rundown of the disco hits - past, present & future - from the uber-obscure 2 the all too familiar yet somehow totally unexpected with an ample helping of mirrored curveballs & exclusive edits (many of which have gained support & play from DJ Harvey of late) thrown in 4 good measure!

Past highlights include the Ottowan "D.I.S.C.O.” singalong, Billy playing just about every version of "I'm A Man" ever made in sequence and the entire club doing "The Hustle" to Van McCoy!

We’ll be installing Billy’s personal customised DJ set up including Technics GR turntables & one of a kind ISONOE rotary mixer to the incredible WE ENJOY SOUND system we brought to The Berkeley Suite as well as installing mirror balls, disco lighting, projections & decorations to transform The Berkeley Suite into the ultimate disco playground pleasure palace!

Hailed as "Glasgow's King of Disco" by internationally renowned dj duo Optimo thanks to his genre bending, no boundaries approach to djing during the 90’s and permanently sold out 5 year Melting Pot residency of the noughties and having pioneered the use of rotary dj mixers and audiophile sound systems long before trends caught up via his cult like 20 year Supermax & Outer Drive odysseys, Billy is almost uncannily ahead of the curve and when he takes to the decks whether an aficionado or not you cannot walk away, you cannot fail to be inspired and you cannot resist the urge to give in to the dance.

Bucking the trend of the corporate dance music media driven guest DJ circuit - a practice not only hugely detrimental to the development of local scenes but also environmentally unethical & unsustainable given the excessive levels of air travel involved Supermax is built around the firm conviction that truly the best clubs & parties are based around resident dj’s and their clientele.

High quality audio reproduction is fundamental to any great party and this is absolutely the case with Supermax. The Supermax sound system, acoustic treatment & sound management is courtesy of world class club sound system engineer, loudspeaker designer and long-term collaborator Rory Watson of We Enjoy Sound and includes custom designed Volt & BMS driven loudspeakers, Jabo horns, MC2 power, and acoustic room treatment.

Billy is a pioneer in the use of rotary DJ mixers due to their superior sound reproduction quality having been the first dj in the country to utilise specially imported ‘original’ Bozak mixers at his Outer Drive & Supermax parties (including a rare early D model Bozak that was originally installed at Legendary 70’s Fire Island discotheque ‘The Ice Palace’) back in 2002 before upgrading to his one of a kind custom built ‘Isonoe’ in 2016. Venues & events such as Spiritland, Public Records, Brilliant Corners, Beauty & the Beat etc all followed suit and only a handful of unique custom Isonoe mixers exist having been designed & built for an illustrious clientele - Dixon, Floating points, Despacio, Spiritland, Brilliant Corners, Public Records NYC & Theo Parrish.

Each month the Supermax production team spend several hours on the day of the party installing Billy's personal dj set up - including one of kind Isonoe mixer, Technics GR turntables as well as mirrorballs, lights, decorations & projections to ensure a unique dance floor experience.

Supermax aims to present an alternative to the audio destroying digitally quantised, auto-synched format of dj’ing that currently dominates the scene including presenting beautifully mastered original disco 12 inch records the way they were intended to be heard on an audiophile sound system set up in keeping with the tradition of the original disco dj’s – Larry Levan, David Mancuso & Ron Hardy - and their respective venues.

At 15 years & counting Supermax is possibly the longest running *genuine* 'resident only' underground dance party anywhere in the world today and a throwback to an era where dj's would take control of the music selection, environment & experience across the entirety of the night, all the while developing a sense of community, mutual experience, continuity & rapport with the dancer.
