Beyond Borders is an academic conference hosted by the London Science Fiction Research Community (LSFRC) in partnership with the London Chinese Science Fiction Group and Science Fiction Beyond the West. From alien encounters to narratives of outer space colonisation and the construction of walls between bodies and worlds: join us for a far-ranging interrogation of borders in SF.

Conference dates:

• 10th September (half day)
• 11th September
• 12th September

Held over three days, our online conference will include keynotes from Dr Nadine El-Enany and Florence Okoye, a creator panel featuring Chen Qiufan, Larissa Sansour, and Linda Stupart, workshops, panels and much more.

Once you have registered, we will contact you with details for how to join the event on Blackboard Collaborate closer to the event date. A provisional schedule will soon be available from our website.

Regarding our costs: LSFRC is not run for profit and none of its directors draw a salary. All our events are either free or have free ticket options. We have no formal institutional affiliation – although we are grateful to the Centre of Contemporary Literature at Birkbeck, University of London, for support toward the Beyond Borders conference – and do not charge membership or subscription fees of any sort. All money we receive goes towards covering the costs of our events (e.g. digital services, website costs, design fees, honoraria/expenses for invited guests, catering, printing, etc.). 

Regarding institutional funding: if a university or other institution is willing to fund your registration, we are happy to provide official letters of confirmation and/or invoices to help support any claim or form you have to submit. Just contact us by email and we will do what we can to help.
