This is an opportunity to share a book structure I created in 2014, which has a reversed triangular spine. I created the Pivot Binding specifically for a single section book, so that the pages could both be supported and articulate on the internal point of the triangle, creating a lovely opening to the book and an elegant book structure.

Tracey Rowledge
Tracey studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths’ College, London, and Fine Bookbinding at Guildford College, Surrey, UK. Her practice combines elements of both fine art and the applied art of bookbinding. She works to commission, teaches and collaborates with makers from other disciplines. Moving between disciplines enables her to keep her way of thinking open, despite the technically demanding process of bookbinding.
Tracey has exhibited internationally and her work is held in many private and public collections. She has received various awards, undertaken two residencies with David Clarke (silversmith) and has collaborated with Jonathan Parsons (artist), Ti Parks (book artist) and Sarah Warsop (jeweller, choreographer and dancer). She is also a founding member of Tomorrow’s Past, an international bookbinding collective whose aim is to encourage an alternative, modern and quietly creative response to the conservation of antiquarian books.
