Join Stuart McHardy for the Edinburgh launch of his latest two books, Scotland's Sacred Goddess and Scotland's Geomythography.
In Scotland’s Sacred Goddess: Hidden in Plain Sight, McHardy delves into the rich tapestry of pre-Christian Scottish beliefs, uncovering the enduring presence of ancient mythologies in today’s landscape. Long before the arrival of Christian monks, the Scots revered a pantheon of deities, with the Cailleach Goddess at its heart.
In Scotland's Geomythography: Myth, Landscape and the Roots of Culture, he unveils the intricate ties between Scotland’s landscapes and the rich tapestry of its pre-Christian and later traditions, demonstrating how geomythography provides a vital lens through which to understand the enduring relationship between the land and its people.
Both books explore how ancient stories, though transformed over millennia, continue to influence Scotland’s cultural and physical landscape and explore the ancient roots and the geographic markers of the land's folkloric traditions.
Tickets are free and all welcome.
