The Glam Reapers Guide to a REAL Irish Goodbye
Share this event
A contemporary exploration of Irish death traditions and superstitions and incorporating this into realtime in America. This is a living (and lively!) conversation about how the Irish wake offers us permission to gather, laugh, cry, eat, drink, remember, and plan with intention and how we can use this in modern mourning in America.
Including:
• The social role of the Irish wake (community, food, music, stories)
• How wakes allowed space for complicated grief and honest emotion
• What we’ve lost as funerals became more formal and outsourced
• How green burial and eco-conscious choices echo old Irish values of land, cycles, and return. We will hear from renowned Brooklyn based funeral director Amy Cunningham on reviving the old-fashioned home-based wake.

• Women leaders thinking about legacy and values
