Why am I a Baptist? What is distinctive about our identity and why does that matter in the 21st century?
Our Baptist History and Principles course is a 2-day residential taking place on the 11th & 12th of July 2026.
The course will run 9:30 - 17:30 on both Saturday and Sunday, including breaks.
On Day 1 We will trace the story from its tentative beginnings in the 1600s to present day, identifying key moments, people and ideas along the way. We will keep in mind the ‘so what’ questions that arise on Day 2 when we bring what we discover into conversation with the BUGB Declaration of Principle, reflecting on the local church, discipleship and mission.
Differentiated assignments are set, with a submission date in October, for both National Accreditation and Recognised Local Ministry within BUGB. If you are taking the course for interest, you are welcome, but not required, to complete assignments and we will be happy to offer feedback.
It is great for CMD, and for those who would like to learn more about the Baptist story in a supportive, friendly environment
The course will be delivered by Baptist Historian Revd Dr Ruth Gouldbourne and Revd Catriona Gorton. Ticket cost includes overnight accommodation on the Saturday night, and all meals. Additional accommodation can be booked at your own expense with our reception. Contact Luther King Theological College - Get in Touch
