The newly formed Afro Peruvian Jazz group, Portraits Quartet fuses traditional Peruvian and Brazilian Music with American Jazz standards. The Portraits Quartet consists of Guitarist Raul Abbad, Singer Megan Chappius, Drummer Daniel Del Carpio, and Bassist Justin Lee. They are in the process of recording a few singles that will be posted on streaming platforms in the near future! Recent performances include the Bach on Hilltop summer concert series in Bordentown NJ. Lyceum Hall Center for the Arts is proud to present these young vibrant musicians.

What is Afro-Peruvian Jazz, you ask?

Also known as black Peruvian Music, Musica afroperuana, or Musica negra, it is a type of Latin American music first developed in Peru by enslaved black people from West Africa, where it is known as Festejo!
