Schools and studios with student performers in grades 6 - 12 are invited to the inaugural Young Entertainer Spotlight Festival (YES Fest) - where tomorrow’s stars shine!  YES Fest is an educational student theatre competition complete with performances, workshops, adjudication and awards! Our 2021 performances will take place on the virtual stage on May 26th and 27th.  The festival events will culminate with a socially distant outdoor awards ceremony on the Burlington Riverfront on Friday, May 28, 2021 (subject to change based on necessary safety precautions).  For anyone unable to attend the outdoor event, award announcements will also be streamed virtually.  If the outdoor event cannot go forward, awards will be announced online and a drive-by celebration will take place to distribute awards and certificates (these items will be mailed upon request).

Student performers from registered schools/ studios will be eligible to participate in one or more theatre arts categories. If you are not affiliated with a participating school, please register through a voice teacher, coach or director.

Student performers will be eligible to participate in one or more theatre arts categories. Categories include the following:
Ensemble Musical Theatre Number, Improv Troupe, Music Video, Original Works (monologues, scenes, short plays), Scenes (from published play/musical), and Solos (songs, monologues, dance numbers).

*Pre-recorded video submission will be required for all categories with the exception of Improv (live on Zoom).  Video submission instructions will be provided after registration.

Wednesday, May 26, 2021:

10:45 am - 11:45 pm - Scenes (from published play/musical)

11:50 pm - 12:50 pm - Solos (songs, monologues, dance numbers)

1:15 pm - 2:45 pm - Music Video

2:50 pm - 4:50 pm - Scenes (from published play/musical)

4:55 pm - 6:25 pm - Solos (songs, monologues, dance numbers)

Thursday, May 27, 2021:

10:45 am - 12:45 pm - Ensemble Musical Theatre Number

1:15 pm - 3:15 pm - Original Works (monologues, scenes, short plays)

3:20 pm - 4:20 pm - Ensemble Musical Theatre Number

4:30 pm - 6:30 pm - Improv Troupe

Friday, May 28, 2021 - Award Announcements!


All workshops will be led by guest artists! Post performance talkbacks with adjudicators will provide educational feedback. Adjudicators will also share their experiences as working professionals in the arts. For scoring purposes, each performance will be numbered and adjudicators will not receive student or school names.

To participate, schools/studios must first register for the festival. Once registered, you will be invited to apply for one or more performance slots in any of the 6 categories. Please note that a limited number of slots are available in each category. The Festival will request audition submissions in the instance that there are more registrants than available slots for any given category. You will be notified should an audition submission be necessary.

The registration deadline is April 7th. Completion of registration makes your group eligible for festival performance slots. The registration fee is $50 per school/studio and additional fees apply for booking a performance slot.

The fee scale:

Solo performances

  $20

Group performances of 2-5 people

  $50

Group performances of 6 or more people

$100
