About the Show:
“OUR STORY (YOU & GRACE’S TOO): The Making of the American Flag” is a time-bending, joyfully rebellious adventure where forgotten history comes to life. Audiences step right into Mary Pickersgill’s cramped Baltimore flag shop as a team of women and girls — including Grace Wisher, a young Black indentured servant, and You — race to sew the massive Star-Spangled Banner that will fly over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. When a 1960s painter barges in to ‘fix’ history, history pushes back, insisting that the real story includes all the hands who built America. With humor, heart, music, and a dash of chaos, the play leaps between 1814, 1962, and today to celebrate courage, creativity, and unheard voices finally being heard. It’s immersive, surprising, and powered entirely by young performers who prove that history isn’t just something we learn — it’s something we make.
Performed by the Grace Wisher's Star Spangled Banner Campers.
