SHARP–Neuro

Friday 20th November 2026
Registration from 08.00. Course 08:00–17:00
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity HQ, TF11 8UR

SHARP–Neuro is an advanced multidisciplinary human-factors and high-fidelity simulation course for healthcare professionals involved in neurosurgical care.

Through immersive clinical scenarios, facilitated debriefing and focused workshops, participants will rehearse the teamwork, communication and decision-making required during complex and time-critical neurosurgical events. SHARP combines multidisciplinary healthcare simulation with human-factors learning drawn from commercial aviation, bringing clinical and aviation faculty together to explore how teams communicate, decide and perform in safety-critical environments.

What to expect

Participants rotate through small-group simulation and workshop stations exploring:

  • communication during complex and evolving clinical events;
  • leadership and effective followership;
  • situational awareness and decision-making;
  • escalation, speaking up and shared mental models;
  • multidisciplinary teamwork during high-stakes events.

Scenarios are based on challenging situations encountered in neurosurgical practice and are designed to support active participation, reflection and practical learning.

Who is this course for?

SHARP–Neuro is intended for healthcare professionals who regularly contribute to neurosurgical care or are preparing to take on greater responsibility within the multidisciplinary team.

The course is particularly suitable for:

  • Anaesthetists at ST4 level or above, or equivalent, particularly those preparing for or undertaking senior neuroanaesthesia on-call responsibilities, as well as SAS doctors and consultants;
  • Neurosurgical trainees at registrar level or above, SAS doctors and consultants;
  • Nurses and operating department practitioners involved in neurosurgical theatre care.

Previous simulation experience is not required.

Learning environment

SHARP–Neuro is a developmental course, not an assessment. Faculty will provide an orientation to the simulation environment and facilitate structured, confidential debriefing throughout the day.

Venue

The course takes place in the simulation facility at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity HQ, within an operational aviation and pre-hospital environment.

Places are limited to preserve small-group multidisciplinary learning.
