The Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band proudly announce, in its second in an ongoing series of recitals, a landmark evening of piping excellence featuring a special recital by internationally acclaimed piper, Callum Beaumont, on Friday, 29 November 2024, at the Woodlands Hotel in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. Doors open at 19:00 hrs.

This highly anticipated event will showcase the extraordinary talents of Callum Beaumont, one of the foremost figures in the world of bagpiping. A resident of Guardbridge, Fife, Callum has built a prestigious career, currently serving as a full-time piping instructor at Dollar Academy in Clackmannanshire, where he is also the Pipe Major of the school's Novice A Pipe Band. Under his leadership, the band has achieved exceptional success, including more than 20 Major Championships and two Grand Slam seasons.

Callum's piping achievements speak volumes of his dedication and expertise. He is a five-time winner of the Clasp at the Northern Meeting and has captured both gold medals at the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting—making him a true standout in his field. His crowning achievement is winning the prestigious Glenfiddich Championship in 2023, and defending his title in 2024.

Having been mentored by iconic names in the piping world such as Bert Smith, Tom Speirs, and Willie McCallum (our previous recitalist back in April 2024), Callum has shaped a remarkable career, both as a soloist and a member of some of the most renowned pipe bands, including Shotts and Dykehead, Simon Fraser University, and Inveraray and District.

The recital at the Woodlands Hotel offers a rare opportunity for piping enthusiasts and music lovers to experience Callum Beaumont's mastery in an intimate setting. Attendees can expect an exquisite performance featuring a blend of traditional and contemporary pieces, highlighting Callum’s impeccable technique, artistry, and deep connection to the music.

We will also have support from some young local pipers from the City of Discovery Pipe Band.

Since its founding in 1918, the Mackenzie Caledonian Pipe Band has been a steadfast presence in the piping and pipe band community, committed to promoting and preserving Scottish piping traditions in Dundee and the surrounding areas. After navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the band remains focused on revitalising and expanding its youth development initiatives in the region while continuing to bring prestigious pipers to the East Coast to perform for piping enthusiasts.
