About the trainer
My name is Maddie and I have always had a passion for dogs particularly in dog training and behaviour. I run puppy training classes across North Somerset, alongside regular 1-2-1 training.
I have worked within the veterinary industry as a VCA for several years and have volunteered in various places working with farm animals, to exotic animals and rescue dogs at a shelter. I am fully qualified in canine first aid as well as having a level 3 extended diploma in animal management achieving the highest grade. I am also doing a BS'c in canine behaviour, training and welfare to become a canine behaviourist.
Adolescent training class information
The classes are held weekly for 6 weeks, sessions are 45 minutes.
Class dates: 28th June, 5th July, 12th July, 19th July, 2 week break, 9th August, 1 week break and 23rd august
In class we cover:
- Basic commands such as sit, lie down and stand.
- Obedience training, basic recall, lead manners and recall with distractions.
- Education on canine body language and how to recognise this in your dog.
- How to stop common behavioural problems such as jumping up, pulling on the lead, mouthing and resource guarding.
- Manners around food
- Handling for veterinary examination
- Socialising with equipment
- 1 session in public in your group to train in real life situations (WEEK 5)
- 1:1 support and advice
- MOST IMPORTANTLY - Limited class sizes ensure the most effective training and better dog focus!
Adolescent Criteria
For dogs between 6 months to 18 months old and that have had both their DHP vaccinations. Dogs who start the course at 18 months old must be 18 months old or under on the start date of the course. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the class dog reactive dogs are not permitted within the class due to close working proximity with other dogs.
Booking process
If you would like to book purchase your event ticket using the 'buy tickets' button. You will be asked to check a box to agree to the terms and conditions stated on this page.
Once your ticket has been purchased I will send an email confirming your booking.
For optimum results please try to attend all the classes and complete the course. To make the most of the classes and achieve optimal results, short daily training sessions at home are favourable to allow you and your dog to practise the techniques prior to the next session.
The method of training used relies heavily on reward with food treats, food treats will be provided during class, it is also advised to bring a supply of tasty, smelly food treats that your dog will work hard for and is used to eating!
Very occasionally the class environment does not suit a dog or owner, full discussion concerning the best way to proceed will be undertaken at this point.
To avoid the dogs being overstimulated please limit the amount of family members to 3. Children must be supervised at all times and agree to prevent them from disturbing the process of learning during the class. The trainer reserves the right to ask you to not bring your children to future training sessions.
Every effort is made to ensure safety of both clients and dogs during class, by booking this course you are accepting that participating in an activity with dogs, children and adults poses a risk of injury to yourself and your dog, you are also agreeing to make any person who accompanies you to the class aware that they are there at their own risk.
Training class/Premises rules
All dogs must remain on lead and kept away from contact with other dogs within the premises unless specifically instructed by the trainer.
All instances of accident or injury must be reported to the trainer at the time they occur.
Well-fitted harnesses and/or collars and a lead must be used in class at all times, flexi-leads(retractable) are not permitted in class to avoid injury to others.
Head collars are NOT permitted. Other items NOT permitted - choker chains, check chains, electronic training collar including citronella, and any other equipment that the trainer deems unacceptable.
The use of physical force and punishment-based training techniques are not permitted in adolescent class.
Refunds and cancellations
Please note - Because Maddie's Pawfect Pooches operates classes with a very low trainer to dog ratio, unfortunately refunds will not be given for any cancellations. There are no exceptions, no partial refunds will be given for missed classes. I am unable to refund fees should you be unable to attend for any reason.
If the trainer has to cancel for circumstances beyond their control such as illness or adverse weather conditions, every effort will be made to provide an alternative class date, where this is not possible, you will receive a refund for that session date.
Digital materials and video recordings
All adolescent class online videos are the intellectual property of Maddie's Pawfect Pooches and are not to be recorded or reproduced in any way. It is not appropriate to film trainers, other attendees, their families including dogs during classes, in light of this all filming is prohibited.
