Mindful Marbling - The Art of Suminagashi

This 3 hour workshop will look at the meditative practice of the Japanese Paper Marbling technique of Suminagashi as a method of creating images on water by floating ink or pigments on its surface.

Suminagashi, means 'floating ink' and is a thoughtful dialogue between the artist, the ink, and the water. Led by visual artist and book maker, Susie Wilson, you will be guided through the different ways of making patterns on the surface of water, learning to make subtle interventions and rhythmic mark making through the use of your breath, movement in the air or by different tools. 

By the end of the workshop, you will gain practical knowledge of Suminagashi materials and techniques, deepen creative sensitivity to rhythm, movement and flow and leave with a collection of prints that can be used as pages or covers of books, a base to draw or print on.
