12PM - 2PM

Olivier Tardiff

Olivier is a sound artist born on Mi'kma'ki, Turtle Island. Olivier is exploring sound as a ceremonial instrument. Through improvised vocal performance woven into pre-recorded soundscapes they create the conditions for embodied collective connection and personal expression.

2PM - 4PM

The Four

For each Sanctum of Sound, MaHalla puts together a 4-piece formation of guest musicians and members of Music Ashram. Music Ashram is the brand ensemble from MaHalla, where the intention of Sanctum of Sound meets the current explorations of the Cultural Center and the surrounding community. Experimental sounds, traditions, instruments and worldwide performing techniques are expressed through the unique essence of The Four.

4PM - 6PM

Lindhu Raras

The Javanese gamelan ensemble Lindhu Raras was formed in Berlin as the result of a workshop in 2007 with the late Dhalang (puppeteer) and musician Sri Joko Raharjo. He gave Lindhu Raras its name, which means harmonious quake in the Javanese language, and encouraged the workshop participants to continue performing together. Ever since, the ensemble has grown and developed, bringing together musicians from a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds and presenting traditional Javanese music and dance in various settings in Berlin as well as beyond.

For this special occasion, Lindhu Raras will perform large pieces and suites from the classical repertoire of the royal courts of central Java in a small group setting, called gadhon. In this intimate constellation, only the soft melodic and elaborating instruments such as rebab and gender will be played, along with the drums. The director of the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie Gamelan group Sekar Kenanga, Steven Tanoto, will be joining the performance as a special guest.

6PM - 8PM

Samana

Samana was born in the heart of a vast, mountainous forest during a year-long odyssey that Rebecca Rose and Franklin Mockett embarked upon through the untamed wilderness and distant cities of Eastern Europe. Guided solely by their instincts and a fierce devotion to freedom, their first creations emerged from the isolation of nature, performed on the streets and in the villages they encountered. As multi-disciplinary artists, Samana weaves together their poetry, music, striking photography, and fine art into a single, transformative and immersive experience.

Their music confronts the most profound aspects of the human condition, embracing both its weight and its transcendence. It invites us to reclaim our time, our essence, and our place within the natural world, urging a journey beyond our limitations. Oscillating between melancholic ballads and spiritual awakenings, Samana’s sound guides listeners through cinematic landscapes, invoking ancient beliefs, revolution, healing, the unseen, and the profound depths of love, loss, and death. Born from a nomadic existence and steeped in solitude, Samana’s work draws heavily from the philosophy of dreams, the subconscious, and the transformative power of improvisation. Each song pulses with ethereal energy and unfiltered emotional honesty, offering a direct passage to the spirit—stripping away illusions and revealing the raw, shamanic force that connects us to the very core of our being. This is music that speaks to the soul, igniting the heart and awakening the inner sanctum of our existence.

8PM - 10PM

..O

..O (pronounced Thought Bubble) is a live sound art duo formed by Hari Krishna and Ashley Maurice in Bangalore, India. They are the observers of closely related opposing thought processes and the harmonious and sometimes abhorrent phenomena of their interactions. Their live shows tend to be almost ritualistic and devotional to something you cannot quite put your finger on. Drawing inspiration from their Indian roots, they deconstruct the way a song was conceived in the ancient times – over a droning, slow moving anchor tone to support their emotional paintbrush and bring this process to the present using electronic methods of distorting the source sounds.
