Jewish Music Throughout the Centuries: Makhelat HaMercaz Spring Concert 2024
Need help?
Welcome to our annual spring concert!
After 20 years of dedicated service to Makhelat HaMercaz, Hazzan Levin is retiring.
We are honoring his years of leadership with our tribute concert.
Our program is a historical survey of Jewish choral music beginning with the polyphony of Salamone Rossi in the 16th century, through Baroque delights of the 17th century, a setting by Franz Schubert, and Lecha Dodi, by Darius Milhaud, who was a teacher to Burt Bacharach and Dave Brubeck.
The choir will continue with music of the 20th century by Leonard Bernstein, the famous Avinu Malkeinu by Max Janowski, and move on to current creations of the 21st century by Deborah Sacks Mintz, Gerald Cohen, and the Miami Boys' Choir's Yerachmiel Begun.
The conductors will present brief remarks to introduce each piece.
Concert will feature a pianist, harpist, and percussionist.
A kosher dessert will follow the concert.
