Divination Retreat Day (In Person)

About the event:

Come and spend a magical day with Mama and the rest of the team in one of the most magical spaces in Lancashire, Mama's Magic & Mojo Shop. We'll spend the day learning about all things divination! You'll be able learn and use everything we do and also make some goodies to take home with you too! Our retreat days always include a grazing platter lunch with drinks available all day. The shop itself will be closed to customers, so we will have the whole shop as our magical playground on the day! Tickets are strictly limited to 16 places only!

You will be doing the following:

⭐ Cartomancy, Tarot, Oracle & Playing Card Reading – We’ll learn how to read cards without trying to memorise hundreds of individual meanings, using imagery, symbolism, numbers and suits to understand what the cards are telling us, then practise putting several cards together to create a full reading.

⭐ Arithmancy, Numerology – We’ll work out some of our own important numbers, look at what different numbers can represent and learn how they can be interpreted and used within divination.

⭐ Cubomancy, Dice Divination – We’ll use ordinary 6-sided dice and learn how individual numbers, combinations and patterns can be interpreted, then have a go at creating readings from our own throws.

⭐ Polyhedral Dice Divination, D&D Dice – Yes, we’re getting the D&D dice out! We’ll experiment with D4s, D6s, D8s, D10s, D12s and D20s and discover how different dice can be used to create all sorts of numerical readings.

⭐ Radiesthesia, Pendulum Divination – We’ll establish our own pendulum responses, learn how to ask clear questions and then move beyond simple yes and no answers by using pendulum boards and charts for more detailed readings.

⭐ Osteomancy, Bone Divination – We’ll cast bones and curios and learn how to interpret the individual pieces, where they land, what they fall beside, how they interact with one another and the bigger picture created by the whole cast.

⭐ Rhabdomancy, Dowsing Rod Divination – We’ll establish responses from dowsing rods, practise asking questions and experiment with following the direction and movement of the rods.

⭐ Domino Divination – We’ll turn an ordinary set of dominoes into a divination tool, learning how different numbers, pairs and combinations of pips can be interpreted and brought together to create a reading.

⭐ Geomancy, Sand Divination – We’ll make random marks in sand, reduce them into patterns and use those patterns to create and interpret the traditional geomantic figures. It looks far more complicated written down than it is once you start doing it, I promise!

⭐ Oomancy, Egg Divination – We’ll separate traditional egg divination from the modern TikTok-style egg cleanse trend, then use egg white in water to create shapes and formations which we can interpret for ourselves.

⭐ Aleuromancy, Flour Divination – We’ll explore the wonderfully unusual practice of divination using flour and lots, then have a go at using the method ourselves. Yes, flour really can be used for more than making bread!

⭐ Capnomancy, Smoke Divination – We’ll watch how smoke rises, moves, separates and changes direction, then learn how those different movements and formations can be read and interpreted.

⭐ Chiromancy, Palmistry – We’ll look at the major lines, mounts and other features of the hands, what they can tell us, and then practise bringing everything together to give a palm reading.

⭐ Graphology, Handwriting Analysis – We’ll look at size, spacing, slant, pressure, letter formation and other features of our handwriting, then have a go at interpreting each other’s writing. Nobody gets to suddenly start writing neatly because they know we’re looking!

⭐ Sieve & Shears Divination – We’ll explore this wonderfully strange old method of divination in which a sieve and pair of shears are used for names and questions, and of course we’ll have a go ourselves because you can’t spend a day experimenting with unusual forms of divination and leave the sieve in the kitchen.

⭐ Sortilege, Divination by Lots – We’ll explore one of the oldest and simplest forms of divination, drawing or casting marked lots at random to receive an answer, make a choice or seek guidance. We’ll look at some of the different ways lots have been used throughout history, then make our own set of divination lots to use and take home.

⭐ On the day you will be making: A divination wheel, decorating a personal divination die, creating your own Sortilege set, divination oil and making your own pendulum board! And you'll receive a mini deck of playing cards to practice your cartomancy on too!

Background:

Sally (aka Mama Sal) is a British folk witch, rootworker and New Orleans Voodoo Mama based in Lancashire with Creole heritage, just around the corner from the famous Pendle Hill which was the site of the Lancashire Witch Trials. If we need to cancel an event, we will reschedule it and your ticket will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you’re unable to attend the rescheduled date, you’ll be offered a place on another future event of the same value, of your choosing.
