Urban Homesteading & Practical Prepping Retreat Weekend

Sat 28 Nov 2026 9:00 AM - Sun 29 Nov 2026 7:00 PM GMT Mama's Magic & Mojo, 15 Golden Hill Lane, Leyland, Lancashire, PR25 3NP

Come and spend a full weekend with Root & Ridge Homestead at Mama’s Magic & Mojo Shop in Leyland, Lancashire, learning all about Urban Homesteading & Practical Prepping! We’ll spend the weekend exploring practical ways to become more self-sufficient, resourceful and prepared, with plenty of hands-on activities, new skills to learn and goodies that you’ll make and take home with you too!

From growing, preserving and making more of the things we use at home, to food storage, household preparedness and useful skills for dealing with everyday disruptions and emergencies, the weekend is all about making homesteading and prepping realistic for ordinary UK homes. You don’t need acres of land, a huge garden or a cupboard filled with emergency supplies to get started!

Our retreat weekend includes lunch and afternoon tea on both days, with drinks available throughout the weekend. Mama’s Magic & Mojo will be closed to customers, so we’ll have the whole shop to ourselves to learn, make, chat and spend the weekend together! Tickets are strictly limited to 16 places only!

Saturday 28th November 9am - 7pm to Sunday 29th November 9am-7pm. The retreat is for 2 days. For local places to stay overnight please contact us for a list. Thank you.

Background:

This workshop is being hosted by Sally at Root & Ridge Homestead. I am a barefoot in the grass, foraging, natural living, homesteading, nature-loving, family girl. I am an urban micro-homesteader, forager, and qualified complementary therapist. I am a qualified life coach, business coach, nutritionist, flower remedy practitioner, and many other natural therapies, and nature is the key to everything I do. I love to forage, scratch cook, bake, preserve, make herbal medicine and skincare and run as much as possible without preservatives and other chemicals in my family’s life. My husband and I have shared values both on a family level and an ethos towards nature. We have 3 beautiful children and an amazingly awesome grandson, who truly loves nature. He loves to collect sticks and paddle in brooks and rivers wherever possible! My husband is my biggest champion, and vice versa. Being half Creole myself and him marrying into a Creole family, scratch cooking and spicy food sits extremely well with my love of growing various types of chilli plants!

We are a family with various illnesses and we have found that it is best for our bodies that we live as naturally as possible. When I was 19 years old, I had meningitis which left me with encephalitis, acute fibromyalgia, Guillane Barre syndrome and having a series of mini strokes. This left me in a wheelchair and being told I would never walk, talk, work or have children. Since then I have also gained diabetes, adipsia, vertigo, retinopathy, neuropathy, an umbilical hernia and various other stuff! But… whilst I cannot walk very far at all (about 10m), I can talk, I have children and I work. And a lot of this is down to me being really stubborn, it is mostly down, I truly believe, to our homesteading lifestyle, as well as a whole heap of magic. For those who don’t know, I also own Mama’s Magic & Mojo. I spend most of my time in a wheelchair but I see this very much as a positive rather than a negative, because the wheels are my legs and it means I can still get about. I now teach homesteading and practical prepping for all kinds of situations and write books on both subjects published by Billrose Press.

I have had the honour and pleasure of writing for, being interviewed for, or working with some amazing companies, brands, and media over the years such as The BBC, The Daily Mail, Fox News, USA Today, Reuters, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Marks & Spencer, The Natural & Organic Products Show, Ideal Home Show, The Walt Disney Corporation, Spirit & Destiny Magazine, Fate & Fortune Magazine and many, many more. I love collaborating with brands and businesses and love working with the media.
