Lancaster to Heysham Roller Ski Tour

From Salt Ayre Leisure Centre it is a 9 mile out-and-back trip to Old Heysham initially along a flat cycle track and then along the wide promenade with great views across Morecambe Bay. We will have lunch in one of the cafes/pubs at Old Heysham before returning.

The Leisure Centre has free car parking and toilets which will be available for use.

Start time 10am

We will start at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and ski out to Morecambe and then along the Promenade to Old Heysham. The total distance is 9 miles, with the option to add another 4 miles of nice tarmac by including the 2-mile stretch of promenade to the NE of the Midland Hotel.

Classic skis are recommended due to the deteriorated tarmac in a few places (on the stretch between Salt Ayre and the Promenade).

We will aim to have lunch in Old Heysham, where there are several cafes or pubs. It is also recommended to have some snacks and water with you.

There are plenty of shops and cafes next to Morecambe Promenade if you don't want to go all the way to Old Heysham (+ public toilet – bring coins!).

Safety:

The tours will be run in accordance with Government, Snowsport England and MCCSC safety regulations. The Club’s COVID risk assessment can be found on the MCCSC website and booking conditions and requirements of members attending the tours are detailed on the online booking form. When booking, please ensure that you read these and can agree to comply with all requirements.

It is mandatory that you wear a helmet, with gloves and pads recommended for your own protection. No equipment will be provided, so you will need to bring your own.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer kit hire for this tour.
