Aesthetics of Dominance | Counter Cultures and Narratives 

A conversation about the aesthetics, rituals and narratives of majoritarianism and the formation of counter cultures and resistance.

Arshia Sattar is the founder of the Sangam House Writers Residency, a writer and translator. She has a PhD in South Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago. She has worked with the Valmiki Ramayana for over 30 years and is particularly interested in the epics and storytelling traditions of the Indian sub-continent. She teaches and writes about classical Indian literature in India and abroad.

Brahma Prakash is a writer, cultural theorist and Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is the author of Cultural Labour: Conceptualizing the 'Folk Performance' in India (Oxford University Press, 2019) and Body on the Barricades: Life, Art and Resistance in Contemporary India (LeftWord, 2023). His research interest lies in regional cultural performance traditions from northern India with a special focus on the question of aesthetics, marginality and environmental and cultural justice.
