Virtuosity & Romance

Patrick Rafter & Tian Jiang in recital

St John’s Priory, Kilkenny City (opposite Langton's)

Artistic director, Patrick Rafter is joined by internationally renowned Chinese pianist Tian Jiang for a special evening of violin and piano music in the beautiful surroundings of St John’s Priory, Kilkenny. Following their recent performances together on the American West Coast, the two musicians reunite in Kilkenny for a programme celebrating some of the great virtuosos of classical music.

From the elegance and charm of Paganini’s Cantabile to the beautiful Nocturnes of Chopin, the programme brings together music of remarkable intimacy, passion and virtuosity. The evening also features some of the most thrilling works in the repertoire, including Scriabin’s dramatic Étude in D-sharp minor, Ysaÿe’s extraordinary Ballade for solo violin and Chopin’s magnificent Scherzo in B-flat minor.

The concert concludes with Kreisler’s charming Schön Rosmarin and Tartini’s legendary Devil’s Trill Sonata.
