Held as part of the London International Shipping Week 2025, this panel will explore the indispensable role of maritime pilots in casualty response and their significant value as first responders within the UK’s maritime salvage framework. The event is organised by Maritime London in partnership with the UK Maritime Pilots Association.
Featuring the UK’s Secretary of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention (SOSREP), the event will highlight how pilots provide critical early interventions to stabilise distressed vessels, safeguarding lives, property and the environment, protecting the maritime trade arteries of our island nation.
The discussion will underscore pilots’ contributions in strengthening the UK’s salvage system, bolstering environmental and economic security through rapid interventions and providing key support to harbour masters in their roles of overseeing port safety.
With insights from the Chair of Admiralty Solicitors Group, Port of Tyne's Chief Business Officer and SOSREP, the event will examine policy frameworks that support pilots’ vital work, promoting safety and environmental priorities while reinforcing the UK’s position as a global maritime leader.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 16 September 9-10.30am (registration & coffee from 8.30am) at the Westminster Suite, LISW25 Global Hub @ County Hall, Belvedere Rd, London SE1 7GP. Places are limited, please register to reserve your space!
