Join Emily Steele-Dias for a series of fun, practical mobile filmmaking workshops that will empower you to tell stories with the device in your pocket.

No prior filmmaking experience is required—just bring your smartphone and a passion for storytelling!

Workshops also work as standalone sessions, so don’t worry if you can’t make them all.

TIMETABLE

Tuesdays 6-8pm at Whittlesey Library

  • Story Development - 19th November: Develop your documentary idea, from initial concept to final script, with guidance on interviewing techniques and building a compelling narrative.
  • Fundamentals of Documentary Filmmaking - 26th November: Understand the basics of narrative structure, visual storytelling, and ethical considerations in documentary work.
  • Mobile Filmmaking Techniques - 3rd December: technical skills including tips on framing, lighting, and audio recording.
  • Practical Fieldwork - 10th December: Engage in real-world filming exercises to apply your skills and gain confidence.
  • Editing on the Go - 17th December: Learn how to edit your footage directly on your mobile device with simple apps.

About Emily Steele-Dias: Emily has worked as a freelance artist, curator, and producer since 2018. She is an internationally screened filmmaker, and her work primarily focuses on local communities, heritage and unheard stories. Emily founded the organisation Cine-Sister in 2017 which showcases and promotes films with women filmmakers. She is also the festival director of the Gateway Film Festival which launched in 2019 and aims to celebrate local history, community, often mixing film with other art forms such as dance, music and poetry engaging a range of people across Peterborough, Wisbech and Ely.

This is a Creative Lives Know Your Neighbourhood Project funded by UK Government and Arts Council England.

This workshop is open to individuals aged 18 and above and caters to all skill levels, from complete beginners to enthusiasts.
