Visible and creative mending with Steph Norwood
Give your old clothes a new lease of life! Join artist Steph Norwood to explore the wonderful world of visible mending and find inspiration for your own creative fixes.
Repairing worn and broken clothing is both practical and environmentally-friendly, but it can also be fun, creative and personal. From sashiko to crochet, Steph will explain the basic principles of visible mending and share examples. Her talk will be followed by a short taster session where you can practice patching with applique and embroidery techniques. This event is for over 18s only.
About the artist
Steph is a textile enthusiast with over 20 years experience working with a wide range of textile arts. She is particularly interested in historical techniques and loves learning about their origins and social contexts. She enjoys taking inspiration from traditional textiles and applying 'old' techniques to her own modern designs. Originally trained as a biologist, she is constantly inspired the natural world and aims to make her artistic practice as sustainable as possible, using mostly natural and upcycled materials.
