The Martin Centre Research Seminars - Lent Term Seminar 6

We are delighted to welcome Irena Bauman (Sir Arthur Marshall Visiting Professor in Sustainable Urban Design 2024-2025, School of Architecture, University of Cambridge) who will give a talk on:

'Distinctive Futures- strategies for resilience'

Talk Abstract:

It is people who make places resilient. And desire to overcome a harm done to a place comes from the love of that place. And no disaster, nor place, nor the love of that place are entirely the same, but patterns of resilience are. My talk will be based on stories of people who have fought to restore their places. They have used different methods, were motivated by different aspirations, and supported by different circumstances, but in each case, they succeeded by monopolising on the distinctiveness of their people and their places. My focus will be Market Towns in UK.

Bio:

Irena Bauman is an Architect, Urbanist, and a researcher. She co-founded Bauman Lyons Architects and a start-up fabrication company MassBespoke.
