Elemental Forces: A Framework for Intentional Rope Scenes
A two-day intensive exploring structure, mood, and narrative
Tired of tying on autopilot? Want your scenes to have more depth, more intention, more you?
This workshop gives you a practical framework for building rope scenes that actually mean something—whether you're tying a 10-minute floor sequence or a full suspension with transitions.
What This Actually Is:
We're using the Five Elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether) as a structural tool—not as mystical concepts, but as concrete qualities that show up in how you move, how you tie, and how you build a scene.
These aren't "woo-woo" ideas—they're ways of describing what you're already doing (or want to be doing) in rope. The framework just gives you language and structure to do it more deliberately.
What You'll Actually Walk Away With:
✓ A toolkit for creating scenes with emotional texture and narrative arc—not just "tie, photo, untie"
✓ Better rope handling that matches your intention (instead of every scene feeling the same because you're tying the same way)
✓ Understanding how different harnesses carry different psychological weight—and how to use that
✓ Practical skills for moving between floor and air with purpose (not just "now we go up")
✓ Ways to break out of your default patterns and actually improvise responsively
✓ Somatic awareness that makes you more responsive to your partner's state (riggers AND bottoms)
Who This Is For:
- Riggers who want their scenes to feel more intentional and less like going through the motions
- Bottoms who want to understand how to actively shape the energy and arc of a scene
- Anyone feeling stuck in repetitive patterns and wanting fresh approaches
- People interested in the why behind choices, not just the what
- Those who want to build scenes that feel like conversations, not demonstrations
No dance or movement background required.
We're not making you do interpretive dance. We're giving you practical tools to think about rope handling, transitions, pacing, and emotional tone in ways that make your scenes richer.
Prerequisites:
Riggers: Need to have a good understanding of minimum partials, better suspensions, are confident in tying the common harnesses and have a good and safe upline handling.
Models: Should know their limits and know how to spot nerve impingements. Ideally they should have experience in partials and suspension s.

About the teachers:
Burgundy Rose (she/they)
is a rope artist and facilitator interested in using the body as a tool for expression. They have been studying Japanese kinbaku/shibari for almost a decade, beginning their journey at Anatomie Studio in London and since learning from a broad range of international educators and collaborators. Dynamic, playful and attentive, they are deeply curious about the body and thrive on the intensities - both physical and psychological - that rope can bring out.
Burgundy Rose has training in theatre, dance and aerial circus, which influences their personal style. In 2019 they were awarded a ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from Arts Council England to deepen their research across rope, dance and physical theatre. Their shibari teaching and creative performances have taken them across the UK and international scene.
Anna Noctuelle
is a highly experienced and versatile Shibari practitioner with 20 years of experience. Her journey with Shibari began as a personal discovery and has since evolved into a multifaceted practice encompassing teaching, modelling and performing. Her dedication to sharing her passion for Shibari has taken her to various rope communities across Europe teaching workshops and captivating audiences with performances since 2016. Anna’s artistic journey has been deeply influenced by her diverse background. With a foundation in classical dance and other embodied practices, she brings grace, elegance, and a keen sense of body awareness to her Shibari practice. Her exploration of Buddhism, Tantra and Shamanism, as well as her commitment to yoga, have shaped her aesthetic and philosophical approach to Shibari, lending it a spiritual depth and tranquility. Being a linguist in her other life she’s constantly exploring the communicative aspects of Shibari. She is co-founder of "Embodied in Rope" - a comprehensive educational project for Rope Bottoms and founder and co-host of the podcast "Model Behaviour".
