Shibari belongs to every body. In this workshop, we explore how to tie bodies of all shapes and forms  with confidence, creativity, and care—whether the model is muscular, soft, heavy, tall, or whether the rigger is smaller or more petite.

Drawing on years of experience tying diverse bodies, Saara will guide you through the technical and ergonomic skills needed to create safe, beautiful, and enjoyable sessions. Together, we will look at:

✨ How to approach tying when the rigger is small and the model larger
✨ Body handling and movement principles for different shapes and weights
✨ Adjusting rope placement, tension, and tightness for muscular vs. soft bodies
✨ Using uplines to support transitions and suspensions
✨ Structuring a session that feels good for both partners

We will practise basic patterns and troubleshoot common challenges. This workshop is an open space to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another—so that all partners can feel safer, stronger, and more at ease in their bodies and in the ropes.

Requirements:
Riggers: familiarity with basic ties such as single- and double-column, counter tension, and futomomo.
Bottoms: some previous experience being tied, and the ability to communicate sensations and boundaries clearly.

All bodies, all sizes, all genders, all experiences—truly everyone is welcome.

About the teacher:
Saara Kantanen is a Finnish artist, performer, and shibari and kinbaku teacher. Living in the countryside with her family and animals, she embodies the spirit of a modern-day viking woman. She co-owns Kakumei Kan, a kinbaku studio in the heart of Helsinki.

Shibari is both Saara’s passion and profession. She teaches couples, offers private sessions, and performs in Finland and abroad. Her style draws inspiration from Naka Sensei and Riccardo Wildties, focusing on emotional connection over complex patterns.

In her sessions, Saara creates a space where trust, vulnerability, and feeling take center stage. As both rigger and model, she brings empathy and intensity to every tie, often blending ritualistic and BDSM elements. Her workshops emphasize fundamentals, safe suspensions, and authentic connection through rope.
