Foundational Class 0: Shibari's 5 Elements - Minimal Technique, Maximal Impact (beginner and all-levels)

Sun 8 Feb 2026 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Studio Yukari, E1 4BG

Doors open: 11:30AM
Level: beginners and all-level

Rope scenes carry the elemental power of nature itself: Earth, Water , Fire, Air and Ether.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how these 5 Elements can transform the way you handle and apply rope, giving you a practical framework for creating emotionally rich, deeply connected scenes with minimal technique but maximal impact.

The ”5 Elements” are the foundation of my rope teaching. They form the logic of how I approach all building blocks for scenes - from rope handling - which we will cover in this workshop -  to harnesses and why I would choose floor, semi-suspension or suspension. These Elements guide me and function as building block for shaping emotional landscapes. Understanding them gives you the tools to design rope experiences that make sense not only technically, but emotionally and somatically.

No advanced techniques are required—this is about how you tie, what you tie. Perfect for all levels - it’s great for beginners as it will enable you to play in a rich and varied way without having to resort to complex technique and it’s great for the more advanced practitioners as it will allow you to understand my logic of creating rope sessions that make emotional and somatic sense and maybe eventually tie the heart and the soul - kokoro - with minimal or no rope. This is where the circle completes.

Come with curiosity, and leave with inspiration and new skills for meaningful rope connection.

What You Will Learn

In this workshop, you will gain:

  • Confident rope handling
Develop familiarity, ease, and presence with rope so it becomes an extension of your intention rather than a technical obstacle.
  • A clear elemental framework (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether)
Learn how to use the 5 Elements as a practical map for shaping scenes that are emotionally, somatically, and energetically coherent.
  • How to build emotional stories through rope
Understand how to create scenes that communicate feeling, mood, and meaning—not just structure.
  • Creating inner and shared emotional landscapes
Learn how rope can evoke internal states and guide your partner through a felt, embodied experience.
  • Deepened partner connection and presence
Practice attunement, listening, and intentional touch to foster trust, responsiveness, and emotional resonance.
  • Simple, varied, and emotionally rich tying approaches
Explore ways to create powerful experiences using minimal technique—maximal effect without complexity.
  • Clarity of intention
Learn how to identify what you want to communicate and how you want to connect, before the rope ever touches the body.
  • A transferable logic for rope scenes
Gain insight into how these Elements inform choices around rope handling, structure, and eventually floor work, semi-suspension, or suspension.

This workshop is about understanding why and how you tie, so your rope scenes make sense emotionally, somatically, and relationally.

Tip: This workshop also lays a great foundation for our "Foundational Course I: Floor”—a course that will set you up and cover the foundational concepts and techniques in Shibari.
