Furniture, the quiet support that fills our homes and shapes our lifestyles. They are made to be used, but also each have their own personality that makes them more than justfunctional. We all have a favourite chair, that has served us well for many years. The relationship between furniture and owner is a special bond; to offer ones body to become that beloved object takes dedication on both ends and a unique intimacy and language to create. In this workshop we will be exploring how to approach power and care through the practice of tying humans into furniture via shibari.
Human Architecture is an act of care; taking care of safety, headspace and also aesthetics so that the bottom can let go and surrender to the experience. Human Architecture care and responsibility is where the power dynamic can manifest.
In the first part of the workshop we will be exploring how to create this dynamic. Taking on the role of artist and its tools, the exercises in the class focus on how to use rope to map out their body, and discover their characteristics that you would like to highlight/fetishise.
The second part of the workshop we will be creating our own furniture pieces. In this exercise we will explore how to transform them from human to furniture through a playful and collaborative dynamic. This part of the class will involve discussion of power play through acts of service, how to keep the bottom in headspace and communicate in the style of play, as well as the ergonomics of a human chair. After the demonstration students will make their own furniture and explore how to modify the demonstrated tie to make the most of their partner's assets.
Prerequisites:
Riggers will need basic knowledge of single/double column tie and simple frictions to attend this workshop.
It is recommended to attend this with a partner that you are familiar with already and that bottoms have an invested interest in objectification.
