5 Elements. 5 foundational concepts. Discover the roots of your Shibari practice in the first course of our Foundations Series: Earth.
Grounded in the element of Earth — stability, strength, and support — this workshop offers a thoughtful introduction to the core skills that underpin a sustainable and creative Shibari practice. Through floor-based ties and partner exercises, you’ll build confidence in both technique and connection while developing a strong foundation for future exploration.
This course focuses on essential fundamentals including the Single Column Tie, Double Column Tie, rope handling, body handling, joining rope, basic frictions, and a range of foundational harnesses such as Bunny Ears, Agura, Futo Momo, and Hands-in-Front. Alongside the technical aspects, we’ll also cover the somatic and emotional aspects of tying on the floor as well as communication and safety practices that help create a more connected and intentional tying experience.
We teach from both sides of the rope, giving equal space to tying and bottoming skills, so participants can better understand the physical, emotional, and relational dynamics involved in Shibari. As with all of our foundational courses, technical exercises are balanced with opportunities to explore presence, trust, creativity, and embodied experience.
Whether you’re completely new to Shibari or returning to strengthen your fundamentals, Earth offers a supportive and immersive environment to deepen your practice with clarity, confidence, and care.
