A musing on aesthetics and the visualisation of bondage in photography
In this keynote Alexander MA will give the audience a tour (de force) through the depiction of the bound body in photography over the past 125 years - from Jeandel and Seio Ito to contemporary artists.
Together, we will explore the aesthetic concepts, philosophies and visual principles that have shaped the way we “see" Kinbaku today. Along the way, we will question familiar stereotypes, challenge our own projections and ask what makes an image feel erotic, beautiful or disturbing.
Above all, there will be porn, filth, and kink on the screen - but hopefully also poetry.
About the educator:
Alexander is a researcher, philosopher, and embodiment activist, been fascinated by Japanese history and culture for a long time. Studying Japanese Martial Arts since his teenage years, he graduated as a black belt in Seishinkai Aikido, a practice that still informs much of his approach to presence, touch, connection, and power.
Alexander teaches traditional Japanese Rope Bondage, Kinbaku, in Berlin and across Europe, he does photo sessions, performs and is a founder and editor in chief of Kinbaku Society of Berlin Magazine.
