1916 Matawan Shark Attack Commemoration Tours - July 12, 2025

The Matawan Aberdeen Historical Society is proud to present - The 109th Anniversary - 1916 Matawan Shark Attack Commemoration Tours

Join us to hear the incredible story of tragedy and heroism that shocked the nation and inspired the movie “Jaws.”

This year’s event will be a combo bus/walking tour held one day only, July 12th, the anniversary of the attacks. Our guides will take you for a fascinating tour that will tell the incredible story at various sites of the shark attacks.

The donation per ticket is $40 per person ($30 for MHS Members). We are all volunteers and all the event proceeds will go towards supporting our non-profit organization and maintaining Burrowes Mansion Museum. We will also be offering an exclusive Matawan Shark Commemoration Tour T-shirts for purchase to all tour attendees. They will be available upon the conclusion of each tour and limited to 1 per person. No other shirts will be sold or produced. T-shirt purchases are not required and are completely optional for attendees.

Tours will be sold as 4 separate tour groups, each limited to 50 people. No tickets will be available the day of the tours.

Free drinks, snacks and refreshments will be provided to all guests. Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the tour starting times. Tours will go on rain or shine.

Starting Address and Check-In:

Matawan Borough Hall, 201 Broad Street, Matawan, NJ

Please park in the parking lot located next to Matawan Borough Hall in front of the baseball field.

Tour will last an estimated 1.5 hours. The walking portion will be less than 1/2 mile. Bus will return to Borough Hall upon tour conclusion.
