We Need to Talk About Cuchulain
It's time to meet Cuchulain but from a completely new persective. We know him as an Irish warrior hero and demigod but he was also; husband, father, lover and guard dog. In Iron Age Ulster, stories came out of the mouths of bards and went into the ears of everyone else. Lara McClure's darkly amusing and assuredly gnarly yarn approaches archetypal hero Cuchulain through the testimony of a trio of Warrior Women - his sworn enemy Queen Medb, his ardent admirer the Goddess of War, and of course his doting Nana.
reviews from Lara's show at the Edinburgh fringe- “A one-woman ball of infectious energy”; "an excellent performer
... (who) stamps her own style on the tales ... stands firmly on the fun
side of raunchy and is not to be missed." (Stephen Walker, The Wee
Review) "a talented storyteller ... whose verbal dexterity, cleverness, and
passion for the material draws her audience in like a sage by a camp
fire" (Alan Grant, Scottish Daily Express)
Suitable for age 14+.
We will be live and in the room and also streaming via Zoom. We're loving our international reach and enjoy the 'shout outs' to our global audience. So, if you're willing and able, schmooze on down to the Imperial Rooms in Matlock and join us live. If you're elsewhere in the world or can't join us live for whatever reason then kick back, feet up and click on the link.
We are delighted to tell you that soup, cakes, teas coffees etc are available from our kitchen. We do still operate with good old fashioned cash, kerching! so bring your purse to cross our palms with silver. All monies from the kitchen help to fund our ongoing story nights. You are still most welcome to bring a bottle of something cheeky with you.
We urge you to book in advance, if you are able as tickets often sell out.
To help our more technically challenged friends we have a very small number of tickets available on the door. We suggest you arrive early if you wish to secure one of these pay in person tickets.
We at Matlock Storytelling Cafe are embracing our quest; to bring top quality performances to adult audiences.
Grab a ticket, turn off your phone and join us on a journey. Online ticket sales will close at 7pm on the night.
