New Season of Matlock Storytelling Cafe starts on Friday 4th September
Oh we have missed you. How have you been? The summer is slipping by, the heat haze is waning and we are finding our way back to the familiar boards of Matlock's Imperial Rooms buzzing with anticipation for a new season of stories. We may or may not put our shoes back on but we will be ready to welcome you back with Stories, soup and caaake.
Our first session back holds something slightly different in its thrall. We'll have our resident tellers sharing a tale or two and we also have 'Something With Teddy Bears'...
The Attercliffe Stupid Club
Carmel Page, who co runs Sheffield's Story Forge has been let
loose this summer. She travelled North by the light of the stars and
found herself over the border in a very strange land (made stranger by
her being there). She is just back from a run at the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe, where she gained a hat and many followers with her Political and
Absurdist performance of Attercliffe Stupid Club
Attercliffe Stupid Club is relaunching. Storyteller Carmel Page tells the
funny and true(ish) history of this outrageous Victorian club whose
satirical members were like an early version of Count Binface. During a
time of terrorism in Sheffield they were
frequently mentioned in the Houses of Parliament. They only got
forgotten because the members always read their minutes backwards,
rescinded them and burnt them on the fire. Are you stupid enough to join
the club?
Beware, ethical conundrums and Teddy Bear Fights with the audience.
We
will be live and in the room but alas not streaming via Zoom this
month. Our lovely tech team are away on their 30th wedding anniversary,
Congratulations to Mat and Niki.
We
are delighted to tell you that soup, cakes, teas coffees etc are
available from our kitchen. We do still operate with good old fashioned
cash, kerching! so bring your purse to cross our palms with silver. All
monies from the kitchen help to fund our ongoing story nights. You are
still most welcome to bring a bottle of something cheeky with you.
We urge you to book in advance, if you are able as tickets often sell out.
To help our more technically challenged friends we have a very small number of tickets available on the door. We suggest you arrive early if you wish to secure one of these pay in person tickets.
We at Matlock Storytelling Cafe are embracing our quest; to bring top quality performances to adult audiences.
Grab a ticket, turn off your phone and join us on a journey.
The doors opens at 7.00pm, stories 7.30-10
Tickets are £8 (plus a small booking fee)
We are also trialing some cheaper tickets for younger folk and those who identify as skint .Please self select.
