LIVE IN THE ROOM and ON THE ZOOM

The light is fading, there's a slight coolness in the morning air and the trees are tinged with a new hue that heralds Autumn. The trees keep the seasons, they whisper to us of change that is on the way and they are magnificent all the year round. This seems like a good time to celebrate All Things Tree. The wonderful Xanthe Gresham will be doing just that at our October Storytelling Cafe.

Telling the Trees
From Ash to Hawthorn, Birch to Blackthorn trees spell enchantment. Trees are everyone’s friend, but fairies, witches and deities lay a special claim to their magic. We dress them, bless them, dance for them and pour libations. Come and listen to the stories and sing the songs inspired by the beings that keep us breathing.

Xanthe Gresham Knight is an international storyteller specialising in folktales and myths from around the corner and around the world. She summons ancient goddesses, tricksters and heroes not from the past, but from here and now, from you and me. Xanthe has been Storyteller in Residence for The Chelsea Physic Garden, Harvard University, Psychologies Magazine, Hastings Storytelling Festival and Stoke and Staffordshire Libraries. She performs regularly at The British Museum and The Smithsonian and is the author of numerous books, including The Myths and Folktales of Sacred Healing Plants, Herba Mythica and Women of Myth and Legend.

We will be live and in the room and also streaming via Zoom. We're loving our international reach and enjoy the 'shout outs' to our global audience. So, if you're willing and able, schmooze on down to the Imperial Rooms in Matlock and join us live. If you're elsewhere in the world or can't join us live for whatever reason then kick back, feet up and click on the link.

We are delighted to tell you that soup, cakes, teas coffees etc are available from our kitchen.  We do still operate with good old fashioned cash, kerching! so bring your purse to cross our palms with silver. All monies from the kitchen help to fund our ongoing story nights. You are still most welcome to bring a bottle of something cheeky with you.

We urge you to book in advance, if you are able as tickets often sell out.

To help our more technically challenged friends we have a very small number of tickets available on the door. We suggest you arrive early if you wish to secure one of these pay in person tickets (£9)

We at Matlock Storytelling Cafe are embracing our quest; to bring top quality performances to adult audiences.
