As one of the greatest mysteries in Flamenco history, La Singla is more than just a film about a child flamenco artist, the Roma community, and the deaf community. This flamenco prodigy—who toured Europe with a young Paco de Lucía and shared the stage with the legendary Ella Fitzgerald—vanished at the height of her fame. This suspense thriller will uncover the universal story of an extraordinary woman whose mysterious gaze, unparalleled expression, and deep connection to flamenco art will captivate, move, and inspire audiences worldwide.
When Antonia Singla graced the stage, she did so without hearing the music. Born deaf to a Romani family in the suburbs of Barcelona, La Singla—as she would affectionately come to be called—rose to international acclaim by the age of 17. Quite literally moving to the beat of her own drum, La Singla’s pistol-like percussions were nothing short of revolutionary, gripping the world of flamenco with a dynamism never before experienced. But at the height of her fame, La Singla disappeared from the dance stage, leaving a scattered archival legacy of the world’s best bailaora behind.
Paloma Zapata’s hybrid film stunningly weaves the past and present together, expertly layering archival footage with passionate music and sound. One question drives her forward—to find La Singla herself and finally hear, in the dancer’s own words, the heartbreaking story of her life.
Running time: 95 minutes
In Spanish with English Subtitles

FLOR brings together guitar, dance, and song to celebrate flamenco in both its traditional and contemporary forms. With a focus on connection and expression, FLOR’s mission is to foster artistic, cultural, and community stewardship through the art of flamenco.
Lindsey Bourassa is a flamenco dancer, choreographer, teacher, community builder and the founding executive and artistic director of FLOR. Lindsey received her Master of Flamencology Degree from Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain) in 2019 and her Certificate of Professionalization in Flamenco Arts at El Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla (Seville, Spain) in 2012. She has dedicated herself to the study of flamenco since 2004, predominantly in Sevilla, Spain. In her choreographic work, Lindsey creates flamenco performances that illustrate multifaceted storytelling, often woven together with original, creative prose. Having performed and taught in Spain and throughout New England, she has now settled in her home state of Maine, where her heart feels full to be creating and cultivating Maine’s first prominent and growing flamenco community. Her work on all fronts is inspired by the belief that art ignites magic, cultivates connection, uplifts diverse and uncensored stories, and has the potential to foster stewardship of each other and the earth.
María Mazorra was born in Cuba and began dancing flamenco at a young age. Her Spanish grandmother was an avid dancer and exposed her to flamenco music and dance. In NYC, she worked with numerous groups, studying with Mariquita Flores, Liliana Morales, and Bobby Lorca at the Harkness Ballet/School of Dance, later performing with Bobby Lorca as part of the Puerto Rican Dance Theater. In her late twenties, she pursued a different career path and became a physician. After retirement, she went back to school to enhance her volunteer work in Maine's animal shelters, graduating from York County Community College to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
She returned to flamenco in 2014, studying and performing with Lindsey Bourassa, and feels privileged to be part of a growing flamenco community in Maine. María is a member of the FLOR Community Performance Ensemble.
