Madeleine’s Puppets hail from Asheville, NY with a shadow puppet and crankie performance accompanied by live music entitled Elemental Poetry: the Conference of the Birds. The bones of this story are inspired by both the ancient Sufi poem and by Madeleine’s father’s book - a retelling of the poem focusing on the collective journey of birds who initially are reluctant to leave their various comforts and attachments. These birds represent different archetypes and are universally relatable. The birds eventually surrender to the journey and migrate through 7 valleys, evolving and merging consciousness as the journey unfolds. This story is playful and poetic and about the ultimate reality of interconnectedness, what we think we are searching for already exists in the form of community.
Shane Justice McCord is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter of the group Sham from Asheville, NC. This solo performance will be composed of bass clarinet (perhaps one that is 6’ tall!) and bells and voice.
