Sometimes the right song can get us through challenging times with the perfect message. And who better to craft that message than you?

In this workshop, Emilia will help you write a song of your own by exploring theme, melody, form, and songwriting techniques to write a song you can sing to yourself when you need comfort, encouragement, or affirmation the most. 

No musical ability is required.

ARTIST BIO

Throughout a sixteen-year musical performing career that has taken her through the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Europe, Emilia Dahlin has made Maine her home. Known for memorable performances, Emilia garnered national awards, from Telluride Troubadour, Winner of the Starbucks Music Makers Competition, Winner of Boston Music Conference Songwriting Competition, and the Great Waters Songwriting Contest.

Emilia garners great joy from collaborating and co-creating and believes that music and storytelling are some of the most powerful tools to foster connections between people and create positive social change. A teaching artist, who facilitates songwriting as a means for personal expression, creative collaboration, and language exploration, Dahlin’s also a fellow of Noel "Paul" Stookey's (Peter, Paul & Mary) organization, Music To Life, which supports and amplifies the work of musician-activists.

Emilia's a performer-turned-community organizer. Returning from a pilgrimage of global service that took her to sustainable and intentional communities around the world, she returned to New England to co-found The Transcendence Project with Deb Bicknell, which uses music as a medium for building community locally and globally. She’s also an In Kinship Archives and Performance Fellow (2019-2020) co-creating work that connects people to the Penobscot River watershed and its stories through centering the knowledge of Penobscot native guides.

Emilia still resides in Gorham, Maine where she tends a homestead and is a hopeful gardener.

COVID-19 POLICY

All patrons and staff attending events will need to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (or negative test from within 48 hours) along with a matching photo ID. Children under 12 are exempt.

Audience members, staff, and volunteers will be asked to mask while not eating, or drinking.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Mayo Street Arts has a no refund policy for all reservations. In the event that MSA is forced to cancel an event due to weather, illness, etc., refunds will be offered via the Ticket Tailor platform.
