In meSSeS, Janoah...anygoodjokes? juggles several tasks simultaneously: performing & teaching!

During this (optionally interactive) performance YOU learn to juggle as you watch. In moments between acts, Janoah engagingly guides audience through the essentials: throwing, catching and messy-ing up!

​Precarious unicycle pathways, vibrating puppetry, jaw-dropping juggling, mesmerizing motions, meticulously prepared hot beverages … Janoah tosses together art forms to tell a tale of teaching, learning & labor, hilariously emerging from a haphazard pile of props.

And (of course!) what circus would be complete without popcorn & banana peels?

ARTIST BIO

Janoah Bailin (janoah...anygoodjokes?) creates and performs energetic, stimulating, and educational shows for family audiences with his unique blend of circus, puppetry, story, and dance. He grew up juggling with the Suspenders Juggling Troupe in Falmouth (MA) then traveled New England with the Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour. 

He graduated in 2014 from College of the Atlantic, focusing on performance and movement; in his capstone project Layears, he created/directed/played in an original ensemble physical-object theater piece translating experiences of reading into live performance. Janoah now coaches the Gym Dandies Children’s Circus and has also taught for Payomet Performing Arts in Truro and the Children's Circus of Middletown. In 2016 he helped found the Living Room Dance Collective in Portland (ME), a space devoted to contemporary movement and performance. 

Janoah has trained in contemporary dance through the Lion’s Jaw, Bates Dance, and Fresh Festivals. In the summer of 2019, he toured SpinS, a full-length solo circus-puppetry performance, across the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit, including Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Vancouver. 

Janoah premiered meSSeS, a second full-length show in which the audience learns to juggle during the performance, in May of 2019 with funding from the Maine Arts Commission (MAC) and NEFA. He has brought the show to BarnFest in New York City, the Festival of Us, You, We & Them at the Dance Complex in Boston, the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought in North Hampton, as well as SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME. Janoah was recently awarded the 2020 MAC Fellowship in the Performing Arts. He is currently creating film projects with funding from MAC and NEFA, and performing for New England festivals and parades, leaving behind a wake of tumbled juggling props.

COVID-19 POLICY

All patrons and staff attending events will need to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (or negative test from within 48 hours) along with a matching photo ID. Children under 12 are exempt.

Audience members, staff, and volunteers will be asked to mask while not actively eating, or drinking.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Mayo Street Arts has a no refund policy for all reservations. In the event that MSA is forced to cancel an event due to weather, illness, etc., refunds will be offered via the Ticket Tailor platform.
