ARTIST BIOS
Ethan Stokes Tischler is a musician/educator, born in Vermont and based out of Hope, Maine. A "strong, confident vocalist and lyricist," his compositions "render reverent lyrics" alongside "musicianship and a disarming vulnerability" to speak to the heart through sound and story (Seven Days VT). He delights in the folk and fiddle traditions of Maine and beyond, playing alongside Elsie Gawler as Elsie & Ethan, and with the Gawler Family Band.
Elsie Gawler is a multi-instrumentalist and songster rooted in Maine's traditional folk music and culture. With her family, the Gawler Family Band, she has played throughout the state and beyond, sharing traditional fiddle tunes, songs, and original works since she was 6 years old. From this foundation, she has branched out and launched her debut solo album, Sweet As Honey. The album is a collection of 9 original songs inspired by the sacred connection to earth and community. While continuing to play regularly with The Gawler Family Band, her other projects include duo Elsie & Ethan, and trio The Gawler Sisters. She has also been a long-time member of the group Childsplay.
Greg Pauza hails from the beautiful Green Mountain State and has been playing mandolin for over a decade in various groups, including previous projects with Ethan such as Brightbird and The January Project. He is also a founding member of multiple Seven Daisies award-winning bluegrass group The Tenderbellies. In addition to playing mandolin, he also designs and builds his own acoustic and electric mandolins. Greg currently resides in Virginia and enjoys sneaking his travel-size containers of pure Vermont maple syrup into the local diner to smother his usual order of pancakes.
Noah Fishman is a multi-dimensional performer, educator, composer, and songwriter. Raised in Belfast Maine, Noah studied music at Princeton University and received his master's in composition from the University of Michigan. Known for his creativity on bass and mandolin, Noah ventures to make bold, playful statements by bending lines between genres. Performance highlights include shows across the United States and Europe, a residency at the Kennedy Center in DC, and right here at Mayo Street Arts in Portland!
Willy Clemetson is a fiddler and song-crafter with a passion for living traditional music. He tours with the group Northern Harmony, a choral group that performs internationally, and the folk trio Spintuition. Willy grew up playing fiddle and singing (though only recently at the same time) in the town of Belfast, ME. Surrounded by traditional music and dance at an early age, he developed deep gratitude for the ever-deepening and expanding community that music inspires. In other realms of life, he works as a skilled freelance gardener and is an enthusiastic Ultimate Frisbee player, fantasy reader, and dancer. If by chance, he isn’t galavanting in another part of the world with his fiddle, you might find him in Belfast with his hands in the soil or on a sunny street corner busking.
